Chicago Sun Times syndicated columnist Cindy Pearlman interviewed Ridley Scott about some of his projects, and again Scott let a tid bit slip:

"I'm seriously mulling it over," Scott said. "I think it would be a lot of fun, but the most important thing is to get the story right."

Would Sigourney Weaver and her aliens infest Earth this time?

"Earth would be interesting, and there is talk about it," said Scott, who sounds bored with that premise. "I say we should go back to where the alien creatures were first found and explain how they were created. No one has ever explained why. I always figured that a battleship carrying bio-mechanical organisms that could be weapons was sent into space with some space jockey who didn't last long."

Ridley Scott talked about Alien 5 again, this time to SCIFI.COM during an interview about his upcoming Blade Runner DVD:

Scott, currently in theaters with Black Hawk Down, but not attached to any subsequent project, also acknowledged that he would consider revisiting the world of his other SF classic, Alien. Word is that he''s already met with Sigourney Weaver to discuss Ripley''s next possible--and likely final--adventure. "Oh yeah," he said. "I would do it."

FilmJerk has posted a rumor on the stasis of the Alien 5 project:

For the twelve of you who have been waiting for the next installment of the Alien franchise are going to have to wait a little longer. A source who wishes to call himself "Darryl Zanuck''s Revenge" sends word to us that Fox shot down a supposed final draft script of Alien 5: Invasion on Friday afternoon. Now, Sigourney Weaver has been very coy with the press about doing a part five, saying she was going to be meeting with Ridley Scott about possibly collaborating on this. Well, someone forgot to tell Sigourney that she does not decide when the next Alien movie gets made... especially if Ripley doesn''t even appear in the latest script.

What? Yes, you read that right. Fox decided to give the franchise a spin with Annalee Call as the main focus of the story. Now why would Fox do that? DZR says because Sigourney is just holding out for that one last big paycheck she will never get from anyone else, and Winona Ryder is busting at the tits to do the movie. Since Annalee was an android in Resurrection, there are twenty different ways her reappearance could be explained away with nothing more than a one sentence script explanation.

Keeping this franchise alive has been a major priority at Fox for a long time. But they just can''t get anything going on it. The Aliens Vs. Perdator film got bogged down not because of a bad story but because they couldn''t get the various producers from the competing franchises to agree on all the rights issues. And now this attempt at keeping the original franchise alive is going nowhere. Fox is now ready to sell the Alien franchise to another studio.

This time, Sigourney Weaver spoke to Empire magazine in regards to Alien 5. Here is the article excerpt:

For (Alien 5), Sigourney admits that she's been talking to 'people' about the project, "but I left my character not knowing even what species she was, so right now I''m a little unclear as to how things can progress". So that's the good news. Unfortunately for fans of the Ghostbusters series, it looks like a sequel is out of the question, says the trade. "As for a part 3, that's highly unlikely," Sigourney adds. "I think our bustin' days are long gone - we'd be a very sorry bunch of very old ghostbusters now."

The Onion has conducted an interview with Joss Whedon (Alien: Resurrection) about his current, past and future television and movie projects. Whedon touched on Alien: Resurrection and confirmed that he was involved in Alien 5 talks. Here''s a segment of the interview:

Oh, yes, I have. Ohhh, yes, the fantasies. I''ve never had a worse experience in my life, and I''ve often thought of doing a lecture series on how to make movies based on just showing that movie, because I think they literally did every single thing wrong. The production design, the casting. There wasn''t a mistake they left unturned. So I''ve often thought about it, because we''d been in talks about Alien 5. I love sequels, I love franchises, and I love big epic stories that go on and on. I used to love summer movies, before every single one of them was crap. So, yeah, I''ve thought about doing what I''d originally thought in Alien 5. And, after I found out on the Internet that I was making it, just after I directed Boy Meets World. [Laughs.] I thought about what I would do, what I would want to do with that franchise. And I was like, "You know what? I think maybe I''d like to work on something that 19 people don''t own and control. We have so many executive producers on Buffy–and they leave me alone, they''re great, but I think I''d like to do something that isn''t just somebody else''s. Having said that, I''m now considering doing the Iron Man movie. But that''s just because it''s got that cool shiny suit. Alien 5 was a longer shot. I mean, you have a body blow to recover from there.

A report at Dark Horizons details a statement Sigourney Weaver made at a recent film festival:

"I'm meeting with Ridley Scott in two weeks." That was what she said at a lunch seminar this past Saturday in Williamstown, MA. She was in town as the guest of honor at the Third Annual Williamstown Film Festival. She said Fox had approached her about a fifth movie and she wasn't into it. But, since 'Resurrection' was the only movie left as a cliff hanger, she's been curious as to where they could go with it. Recently she called Scott and discussed the possibility of doing a fifth in which they go to the Aliens' home planet. They haven't even talked to Fox yet, so this is just an informal meeting they are holding, to throw around ideas.

The rumor mill continues to churn, lead by Sigourney Weaver yet again! A recent BBC news note had the following report:

Actress Sigourney Weaver said she has been in talks with director Ridley Scott about making a fifth Alien movie. The star could reprise her role as Ripley in the Alien films which have been huge hits since Oscar-winner Scott made his first in the late 70s. There had been rumours among movie buffs that she could return in the role. In an interview for a Channel 4 documentary Alien Evolution, Weaver said: "We''ll have to see how the elements come together."

Eat This: Well, Ms. Weaver is at it again! Over the last three months the star of the Alien franchise has created quite a stir with rumors hinting at the increasing possibilty of the films production on four separate occasions. Would I like to see Alien 5 produced? Yes. Would I like to see Alien 5 produced for the sake of having Alien 5? No! That would just end up being Alien: Resurretion - Part 2, not Alien 5. We need a quality script, cast and crew to produce a quality film, otherwise the project may as well be scrapped now, before our hopes are brought any higher.
